WHO WE ARE
Sound Progression is a Cardiff-based youth music charity creating free and accessible opportunities for young people aged 11–25 to explore music, develop their talent and build confidence.
We work with young people from all backgrounds and levels of experience, with a particular focus on reaching those who may face barriers to accessing music and the creative industries.
Through community-based music sessions, recording, mentoring, live performance and artist development, we support young people to progress at their own pace — whether they are making music for the first time or developing ambitions for a career in the industry.
OUR PURPOSE
We believe every young person should have the opportunity to make music, develop their creativity and discover where their talent can take them.
Our purpose is to remove barriers to music-making and create welcoming spaces where young people can express themselves, build skills and confidence, connect with others and progress in ways that are meaningful to them.
From first experiences in music through to performance and artist development, we create pathways that allow young people to grow at their own pace — while ensuring those who face the greatest barriers have opportunities to take part.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

Our approach combines youth work with real music industry experience. Young people are encouraged to explore their own ideas, develop their own sound and make creative choices, supported by experienced musicians, producers and industry professionals.
We create welcoming spaces where people can take part without pressure or judgement. You don’t need previous experience, qualifications or expensive equipment — just an interest in music and the opportunity to get involved.
And when someone wants to go further, the pathway is there.
From a first studio session to recording original music, forming a band, performing live or developing as an emerging artist, we help young people take their next step when they are ready.
