DiffTonez

Free music-making, mentoring & studio sessions

For young people at different stages, from first experiences of making music to developing skills, recording and creating original work.

DiffTonez Juniors

Ages 11–19 | Cardiff Youth Service hubs

DiffTonez Juniors is our open-access music programme, delivered in partnership with Cardiff Youth Service at youth centres across the city.

Whether you’re completely new to making music or already developing your sound, our sessions give you the space and support to explore music at your own pace. Work with a music mentor to write and record songs, rap, sing, make beats, learn production, play instruments or simply record a favourite track.

No need to book. Just go along to your chosen youth centre and register with Cardiff Youth Service. The youth team will help you join the right youth club for your age, and you can start accessing our free music sessions.

DiffTonez Grassroots

Ages 14–25 | Grassroots, Cardiff city centre

DiffTonez Grassroots offers free music-making and studio sessions from our central Cardiff hub. With multiple studio spaces and a wider team of music mentors, young people can develop their music in the way that works for them.

Write and record original tracks, rap or sing, make beats, learn production, DJ, rehearse with a band or develop new material. Sundays are dedicated to bands, providing time and space to rehearse and record tracks together.

Grassroots sessions are free but must be booked in advance. Tell us a little about yourself, your music and what you’d like to work on, and we’ll help you find the right session.

Grassroots supports young people aged 14-25
What kind of music are you interested in or currently making? e.g. rap, R&B, rock, indie, pop, electronic, drum & bass.
For example: singing, songwriting, rap, production, DJing, learning an instrument, recording or developing a band.
Monday — 12–5pm Tuesday — 12–8pm Wednesday — 12–5pm Thursday — 12–8pm Friday — 12–5pm Saturday — 11am–3pm Sunday — Band sessions only I'm flexible

DIFFTONEZ INCLUSIVE

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT

DiffTonez Inclusive provides additional and tailored music opportunities for young people who may benefit from a different approach or more individual support.

We work with young people with a range of additional needs and circumstances, creating welcoming spaces where they can make music, build confidence and develop their skills at their own pace.

DIFFERENT ROUTES OF SUPPORT

This includes dedicated sessions for neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ young people, alongside support for young people who may not currently be accessing mainstream education.

We also work with schools, alternative education settings, Cardiff Youth Service, social care and community organisations, accepting referrals where music mentoring could provide a positive and engaging opportunity.
